About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is making safety improvements and resurfacing State Road (S.R.) A1A (South Atlantic Avenue and Dunlawton Avenue) from U.S. 1 (Ridgewood Avenue) in Port Orange, through Daytona Beach Shores, to Davis Street in Daytona Beach.

In addition, the department will install two new midblock pedestrian crossings with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBS) in Daytona Beach Shores: one at Sea Spray Street/Andrianopoulos Park and another near Browning Avenue. RRFBs are pedestrianactivated signals that display flashing yellow lights to alert drivers that a pedestrian is ready to cross. The project also includes upgrading the seven existing midblock crossings by adding in-road lighting and turtle-safe overhead lighting at the following locations: north of Broad Avenue, north of Edwin Peck Park, Publix at Daytona Beach Shores, north of Bellemead Drive, south of Oceans West Boulevard, north of Florida Shores Boulevard, and north of Poinsettia Road.

Additional activities include, updating existing curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and installing new signage and pavement markings.

Pedestrian safety enhancements including new and upgraded crosswalks are being designed under 450666-2.
