The project will include paving the trail and adding drainage improvements, lighting, and new signs and pavement markings. A new pedestrian crossing south of Central Avenue will also be constructed.

The South Sumter Connector Trail is part of the larger Coast-to-Coast Trail, which extends approximately 250 miles across the peninsula of Florida from the Gulf of Mexico in St. Petersburg to the Atlantic Ocean in the vicinity of the Canaveral National Seashore.
