About
The purpose of this safety project is to install an additional pedestrian warning sign along northbound State Road (S.R.) A1A south of the Hayes Avenue intersection, and an additional pedestrian warning sign along southbound S.R. A1A north of Harrison Avenue. The project also proposes a new pedestrian crossing at the Cape Canaveral City Hall. The crossing will be equipped with a pedestrian activated signal known as a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB).
The PHB is an overhead signal that turns red to alert drivers to stop when a pedestrian is ready to cross. The pedestrian receives a "walk" signal once the lights are red.
The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization is contributing funds to pay for the new crossing.
