About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing safety improvements on Fiske Boulevard (State Road (S.R.) 519) from Barbara Jenkins Street to King Street (S.R. 520) in Cocoa.

The project includes reducing the speed limit to 35 mph within the project limits, extending the northbound right turn lane beyond Stone Street, constructing a shared-use path to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians, and installing a concrete traffic separator between the northbound and southbound lanes.

The project also includes a new midblock pedestrian crossing just north of Barbara Jenkins Street. This crossing features a raised concrete median with a pedestrian refuge and overhead Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).

When activated by a pedestrian, the RRFBs flash yellow lights to alert drivers and increase pedestrian visibility at the crossing. Under Florida law, drivers must stop at marked crosswalks when pedestrians are present. For more information about RRFBs and how to use them, visit: www.alerttodayflorida.com/Pedestrian.

This project is being constructed with another project that will install new traffic signals at the intersection of Fiske Boulevard and Levitt Parkway/Lakemoor Boulevard in Rockledge (FPID No. 450417-1).
