About
The purpose of this project is to remove and replace submarine cables underneath the North Causeway (State Road (S.R.) 44) moveable bridge over Indian River, also known as Coronado Beach Bridge, in New Smyrna Beach, Volusia County.
The submarine cables control the electricity that operates the machinery that allows the bridge to open and close for boat traffic to pass through. Replacing the existing cables will ensure continued operation of the bridge for all users.

Lane Closures
-
There are no lane closures at this time, and there are no planned lane closures for this project within the next month.
Towards the end of the project, which is estimated to be Fall 2022, motorists and pedestrians should anticipate a period of multiple consecutive days, totaling less than a week, in which the North Causeway Bridge (S.R. 44) will be closed to roadway traffic.
During the anticipated roadway closure, vehicle traffic will be guided to the adjacent South Causeway Bridge (S.R. 44/S.R. A1A) and directed by electronic message boards and other signage. Marine traffic access will be maintained at all times throughout construction.
This webpage will remain updated throughout construction and in advance of the anticipated bridge closure. Please note that construction schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. See the project flyer for additional project details.
