The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is replacing the northbound and southbound U.S. 1 bridges over Pellicer Creek at the Flagler County/St. Johns County line. The purpose of the project is to provide modern bridges that ensure continued safety and efficient travel along U.S. 1 in this area. The new bridges will maintain similar clearance over Pellicer Creek, and their openings will be wider than the existing ones.
Additional improvements include reconstructed bridge approaches, minor drainage enhancements, and improved bicycle accommodations featuring 5-foot paved outside shoulders along the roadway and 10-foot outside shoulders on the bridges.

Beginning June 11: Motorists are advised that a traffic shift on U.S. 1 (State Road (S.R.) 5) over Pellicer Creek at the Flagler-St. Johns County line will be implemented as early as Monday, June 8. The shift is necessary to accommodate the construction of a new northbound bridge and demolition of the old bridge.
During this first phase, the northbound bridge will be closed, all northbound traffic will be shifted to the southbound bridge.
Once the new northbound bridge is complete and the old bridge is demolished, all traffic will be moved onto the new northbound bridge. This will allow crews to close and replace the existing southbound bridge.
Due to space limitations, the outside shoulders will be temporarily reduced to 1 foot during traffic shift operations. The median opening between Pellicer Creek Campground and Shantytown Village will be temporarily closed during construction. Navigational access for boats will be maintained.
FDOT advises motorists to reduce their speed, follow posted signage, and exercise extra caution in the work zone. Construction schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
