The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) proposes to enhance safety and improve operations at the intersection of State Road (S.R.) 472 and Minnesota Avenue in DeLand. The work is based on the findings of a roadway study in 2018. The proposed improvements include constructing a new directional median on S.R. 472 that would allow left turns onto Minnesota Avenue, but permit only right turns from Minnesota Avenue onto S.R. 472. A new U-turn opening is planned to be constructed west of the intersection, which will include wider pavement to accommodate larger vehicles. The new movement plans to have enough space for large vehicles to accelerate before entering travel lanes. The project also plans to add a new westbound right turn lane onto Minnesota Avenue. In addition to improvements and repaving, the outside lane will include audible pavement markings to alert veering drivers.
