About

The project is incorporating safety improvements recommended under FDOT planning project 435777-1. Proposed improvements on this segment of State Road (S.R.) 434 include replacing the existing center two-way left turn lane with a raised median and constructing wider U-turn areas at some locations.

The median will have full openings at some locations and directional median openings at other locations along the corridor. The locations of the median openings have not been finalized. A directional median opening allows vehicles to turn left or right from S.R. 434 to a side street or driveway, while side street traffic must turn right onto S.R. 434 and then make a U-turn to travel in the opposite direction.

Additionally, the project plans to reconstruct the traffic signals and add pedestrian signals at the S.R. 434 intersections with Grant and Wayman streets.

This project will require additional right of way for U-turn aprons at certain signalized and unsignalized intersections.
