About
The project will be completed in two phases
The entire widening project will increase capacity and improve safety performance on the segment of State Road (S.R.) 50 from east of County Road (C.R.) 757 to east of the Sumter/Lake County line. The plan is to widen this segment of S.R. 50 from two to four lanes with a 40-foot-wide median.
Median openings and left turn lanes will be provided to maintain access. The project also proposes to construct new two-lane roundabouts at the intersections of S.R. 50 with S.R. 471 and C.R. 469. A 12-foot-wide shared-use path is planned to run along the south side of S.R. 50 and connect to the Van Fleet Trail.
Phase One
Phase One will begin in Fall 2026, spanning from just east of C.R. 757 to just east of C.R. 711. It will include the construction of a roundabout at C.R. 471.
Right-of-way acquisition has been completed. The project is currently in the final plans update stage. FDOT is advancing construction by using an alternative bid process for Phase One at an estimated cost of $65 million.
Phase Two, from the C.R. 711 to the Sumter/Lake County line, has not been scheduled.
