About

This is a widening project to increase capacity and improve safety performance on the segment of State Road (S.R.) 50 from east of County Road (C.R.) 757 to east of the Sumter/Lake County line. The project plans to widen this segment of S.R. 50 from two to four lanes with a 40-foot-wide median.

Median openings and left turn lanes will be provided along the 8.1-mile-lomng segment to maintain access. The project also proposes to construct new two-lane roundabouts at the intersections of S.R. 50 with S.R. 471 and C.R. 469. A 12-foot-wide shared-use path is planned to run along the south side of S.R. 50. It will connect to the Van Fleet Trail.

Right of way acquisition has been completed. The project is currently in a final plans update stage and is expected to begin construction in fall 2027. The FDOT is advancing construction by using an alternative bid process.
