About
The Interstate 95 (I-95) interchange at U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach in Volusia County is being reconstructed to improve safety and traffic efficiency.
Work will include the addition of three new bridges and redesigned loop ramps on I-95 to make it easier and safer for drivers entering and exiting the interstate. Reconstructing the interchange and widening the I-95 on- and off-ramps will add capacity and relieve congestion.
Southbound U.S. 1 motorists will now have an improved route onto southbound I-95. Instead of turning left across traffic at an intersection, they will now enter I-95 through an intuitive on-ramp on the right. The project will also widen a 1-mile segment of U.S. 1 between Plantation Oaks Boulevard and Destination Daytona Lane from four to six lanes, separated by a median. A shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians will be added along U.S. 1, and a protected signalized crossing will be provided at the interchange.
The new interchange will be a showcase gateway with distinctive architectural features to reflect the community and support local growth and economic development. “Ormond Beach” will be displayed on the side of the interchange bridge, welcoming motorists traveling southbound on U.S. 1 as they head into the Ormond Beach community. This high-priority project was advanced 15 to 20 years ahead of schedule and fully funded as part of the Moving Florida Forward initiative.
Construction was accelerated even sooner thanks to an innovative and cost-effective new construction delivery method uniquely developed by FDOT. The Modified Phased Design-Build construction delivery method takes the best practices from existing contracting methods and enhances them to expedite construction, streamline resources, and find cost savings.
During construction, FDOT will carefully coordinate work to minimize impacts to the traveling public. Lanes closures will be restricted to nighttime hours, and work will not take place during select holidays and special events. Motorists should follow posted signage, avoid distractions, and pay close attention when driving through the construction zone. The project’s work schedule and estimated completion date may change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Lane Closures

The southbound Interstate 95 (I-95) inside and outside lanes from north of the U.S. 1 interchange to North Tymber Creek Road will be closed nightly between 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. beginning Sunday, September 20, 2026.
The closures will be phased so the inside and outside lanes are not closed at the same time. No detour will be implemented, and the I-95 on- and off-ramps at U.S. 1 will remain open.
Motorists should use caution, reduce their speed, and stay alert while traveling through the work zone. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances and will continue until the work is completed.
