ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a project open house on Thursday, July 23, to update the community on plans to widen East Colonial Drive (State Road (S.R.) 50) from Avalon Park Boulevard to Chuluota Road.

The purpose of this project is to increase capacity, improve operations and enhance safety on East Colonial Drive. In addition to adding a lane in each direction, the project plans to install new traffic signs and shared-use paths and upgrade the drainage system.

The in-person open house will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Boardwalk Bowl – Bridge Event Center, 10749 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32817. Attendees will be able to view a looping presentation and project displays, speak with project team members, and submit comments or questions. The project was initially developed under Financial Project Identification (FPID) number 239203-7. The S.R. 50 widening project will be constructed under FPID numbers 456096-1 and 456096-2.

To provide additional flexibility for stakeholders, the FDOT is also offering online opportunities to get involved:

  • Join an online webinar on July 23 at 5:30 p.m. to watch a project presentation and submit written questions or comments using the webinar questions box. To attend using this option, register at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7392092995294690142. Please make sure to provide adequate time to log in to view the presentation in its entirety.
  • Visit the project websites at your convenience at www.cflroads.com/project/456096-1 and www.cflroads.com/project/456096-2.  Visitors to the pages may watch the project presentation, view project exhibits, and submit comments and questions directly to the project manager. Project materials will be available beginning Thursday, July 23, and will be the same as what will be shared at the in-person open house. While the information will remain on the website throughout the project, please provide comments or questions by August 3 to have the comments included in the open house record.
