Traffic Advisory: New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) Activated on S.R. 50 in Grovelan
GROVELAND, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has activated a new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) along State Road (S.R.) 50 west of Alabama Avenue in Groveland. This PHB is designed to enhance safety along this busy corridor by helping people cross the road safely and increasing drivers’ awareness of pedestrians.
PHBs remain dark until a pedestrian activates the beacon by pushing a button on the signal pole. Once activated, the PHB alerts drivers to slow down by flashing yellow and then turning solid yellow. The beacon will then turn solid red, indicating motorists must stop and allow pedestrians to safely cross the street. The beacon will then flash red, at which time drivers can proceed with caution if the roadway is clear of pedestrians.

The PHB was installed as part of a resurfacing project along S.R. 50 from east of Ivey Street to Crittenden Street. To learn more about this project, visit CFLRoads.com/447093-1.
Drivers should stay alert and use caution when approaching the new PHB as motorists and pedestrians adjust to the new signal.
