The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) activated the last of three Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) that were recently installed on Granada Boulevard (State Road (S.R.) 40) between U.S. 1 and State Road (S.R.) A1A in Ormond Beach. These signals are designed to enhance safety along this busy corridor by helping pedestrians cross more safely and by increasing driver awareness of pedestrians at crosswalks.
The PHBs can be found at the following locations:
- Granada Boulevard at Washington Street
- Granada Boulevard east of Vining Court
- Granada Boulevard west of Beach Street
The PHB at the intersection of Granada Boulevard and Washinton Street was activated on October 7, 2025. The PHB just east of Vining Court was activated on December 16, 2025.
PHBs remain dark until a pedestrian activates the beacon by pushing a button on the signal pole. Once activated, the PHB alerts drivers to slow down with a flashing yellow signal, followed by a solid yellow. The beacon turns solid red, requiring motorists to stop and allow pedestrians to cross the street safely. The beacon will then flash red, at which time drivers may proceed with caution if the roadway is clear of pedestrians.

Drivers should remain alert and use caution when approaching the new PHBs as motorists and pedestrians adjust to the new signals.

Monday, January 26 through Friday, January 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Motorists can expect intermittent inside and outside single-lane and shoulder closures on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (S.R. 5) from S.R. 46 to Brevard/Volusia County Line.
These closures are needed for miscellaneous construction activities.
