About
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to enhance safety and traffic operations at the intersection of State Road (S.R.) A1A at 11th Avenue in Volusia County. A traffic services study conducted by the Department determined that a new crosswalk with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons is warranted at this location. Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons are pedestrian-activated signals that display flashing yellow lights to alert drivers that a pedestrian is ready to cross. By state law, vehicles must stop at all marked crosswalks when a pedestrian is present.
• Design plans for this project include upgrading ramps. Sidewalk ramps for Americans with Disabilities Act purposes?) and lighting improvements for better visibility and safety.
As part of the Traffic Operations Pushbutton Program, the project includes upgrading the ramps, and enhancing intersection lighting design to improve visibility and nighttime safety.
