About
The project plans to resurface South Babcock Street (State Road (S.R.) 507) from north of Palm Bay Road (County Road 516) to Melbourne Avenue to rehabilitate the pavement and extend the service life of the road. In addition to resurfacing all travel lanes, the project proposes:
- Adding a signalized midblock crossing on South Babcock Street near Panther Place. The crossing will be equipped with a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) with pedestrian -activated signals, flashing lights, and audible alerts for accessibility.
- Upgrading pedestrian signals and detectors at signalized intersections to enhance safety.
- Enhancing intersection lighting at Florida Avenue, University Boulevard, and Southgate Boulevard. New lighting is also proposed north of University Boulevard and at the new midblock crossing at Panther Place.
- Updating pavement markings and signage and to guide both drivers and pedestrians.
- Reconstructing sidewalk curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
