450782-1 U.S. 1 from south of S.R. 400 to north of Fairview Avenue

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is making safety and operational improvements on U.S. 1 (Ridgewood Avenue) from Beville Road (State Road (S.R.) 400) to north of Fairview Avenue in Daytona Beach. This project is being implemented to increase pedestrian safety and driver awareness within this corridor.

In addition to resurfacing the roadway to extend its lifespan, other improvements include the installation of four new midblock pedestrian crossings equipped with Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) at the following locations: North of Osceola Avenue, South of Shady Place, Between South Street and Cedar Street, and North of Live Oak Avenue.

Raised intersections with high-visibility crosswalks and crosswalk corner islands will be installed at the intersections of Orange Avenue and Magnolia Avenue. Raised intersections help reduce vehicle speeds, while high-visibility crosswalks safety by making it easier for motorists to see pedestrians. Crosswalk corners help prevent motorists from crossing into the sidewalk when making turns.

Additionally, the median opening at Shady Place will be modified, removing the bi-directional turn lane and providing a protected left-turn lane for southbound traffic. This upgrade is expected to reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes.

The project also includes drainage improvements at select locations to help improve stormwater management and roadway performance.
