About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is painting and rehabilitating the State Road (S.R.) 401 movable bridges at Port Canaveral. In addition to painting, the three bridges will receive structural steel improvements, bridge deck improvements, and new span lock assemblies. A span lock assembly is a mechanical system that typically holds a movable bridge span in place when fully closed.

Lane Closures
  • Motorists are advised that a continuous closure will be implemented on the State Road (S.R. 401) western movable bridge from southbound S.R. 401 to westbound S.R. 528 beginning today, Friday, Dec. 12. The closure is expected to remain in place through January 2026.

Southbound S.R. 401 traffic wishing to travel to westbound S.R. 528 will be directed to the middle bridge on S.R. 401 and use the access road on the west side of S.R. 401 to exit to Westbound S.R. 528 Ramp.

The closure is necessary for the rehabilitation of the movable bridge, including replacing its protective paint layers and mechanical equipment. The other two bridges will remain open to accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic. Marine traffic may cause the bridges to close temporarily.

FDOT encourages motorists to use caution, remain alert, and follow posted detour signs through the work zone.
