About

The goal of the project is to enhance safety and operations for all users and extend the service life of the roadway along the corridor. In addition to resurfacing this segment of State Road (S.R.) A1A, the project will introduce subtle alignment shifts to help encourage safer driving speeds and enhance pedestrian safety. Traffic signal and lighting upgrades, as well as drainage improvements are included. The speed limit of 35 mph throughout the corridor will be reduced to 30 mph during construction and remain 30 mph after project completion.

Pedestrian safety enhancements include wider sidewalks, midblock crossings with pedestrian activated signals, and upgraded curb ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Lane Closures
  • Tuesday, June 16: Motorists are advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is beginning construction on several raised safety features along State Road (S.R.) A1A (Atlantic Avenue) in Daytona Beach.

Temporary single, daytime lane closures will be necessary to complete this work.

During construction, the crosswalks at these locations will not be accessible to pedestrians. Pedestrian detour routes will be in place to guide pedestrians around the closures.

The raised crosswalks will be installed at the following locations:

    • S.R. A1A between Woodland Avenue and Morningside Avenue
    • S.R. A1A between Hartford Avenue and Euclid Avenue
    • S.R. A1A between Zelda Boulevard and Golf Boulevard
    • S.R. A1A between Driftwood Avenue and University Boulevard

As part of these safety improvements, the speed limit throughout the corridor is now 30 mph, reduced from 35 mph to enhance safety and accommodate the upgrades.

Once the project is completed, these raised crosswalks will feature traffic control devices designed to increase driver awareness of pedestrians crossing roadways at marked crosswalks called Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).

To learn more about these safety features, including how to use them please follow the links below.

These roadway features are being constructed as part of a safety improvement and resurfacing project along S.R. A1A intended to enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists. For more information, visit www.cflroads.com/project/442884-1.

FDOT advises motorists to be cautious and alert and to follow all posted detour signs.
