About
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is making safety and operational enhancements along State Road (S.R.) A1A (Ocean Shore Boulevard) from north of E. Granada Boulevard (S.R. 40) to north of Roberta Road in Ormond Beach.
The project incorporates features proposed through the North Ormond Beach Area Coalition planning effort. Enhancements include alignment shifts to encourage safer driving speeds, curb and gutter improvements, and the addition of left turn lanes at the intersection of Neptune Avenue. The speed limit of 35 mph throughout the corridor was reduced to 30 mph during construction and will remain 30 mph after project completion.
To improve pedestrian safety, a new 6-foot-wide sidewalk is being constructed on the east side of the road where space allows, and a 10-foot-wide shared-use path is being built on the west side. Existing pedestrian curb ramps are being upgraded to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Midblock crossings with raised sections and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) are being installed to enhance safety. Lastly, traffic signal improvements, lighting upgrades, and drainage modifications are also being added along the corridor.
