About

This project will make improvements along State Road (S.R.) A1A from north of Granada Boulevard (S.R. 40) to north of Roberta Road in Ormond Beach. The project will repave this portion of S.R. A1A and enhance safety and operations for all users.

The design for the project incorporates elements proposed to the community through the North Ormond Beach Area Coalition planning effort. To help encourage safer driving speeds, the project will introduce subtle alignment shifts, raised speed tables, and add curb and gutter along parts of the corridor.  Improvements also include adding left turn lanes at the intersection of Neptune Avenue for enhanced traffic operations. The speed limit of 35 mph throughout the corridor will be reduced to 30 mph during construction and remain 30 mph after project completion.

Pedestrian safety enhancements include new sidewalk where possible on the east side of the road, as well as a shared-use path on the west side of the road. Existing pedestrian curb ramps will be upgraded to current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Raised midblock crossings with pedestrian activated signals will be installed. Traffic signal, lighting upgrades and drainage improvements will also be included.

Lane Closures
  • Beginning as early as Tuesday, June 2: Motorists are advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will implement lane closures along Ocean Shore Boulevard (State Road (S.R.) A1A) near East Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach beginning as early as Tuesday, June 2.

This work requires temporary daytime detours and traffic shifts to safely accommodate paving operations and construction activities.

During construction, the northbound and southbound lanes of Ocean Shore Boulevard between Standish Drive and East Granada Boulevard will be closed non-concurrently.

This work is anticipated to be a two-day operation beginning with northbound traffic shifting to the southbound side of the road to pave the northbound lanes. Northbound traffic will be shifted back to the northbound lanes the following day for paving in the southbound lanes. Southbound traffic will be detoured both days. Lanes will reopen to traffic at night.

Please see the anticipated schedule below:

Tuesday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 3, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the northbound lanes followed by the southbound lanes of Ocean Shore Boulevard will be closed between East Granada Boulevard and Standish Drive.

    • Detour information:
      • Tuesday, June 2, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Motorists traveling northbound on Ocean Shore Boulevard will be redirected to the southbound side of the roadway to continue northbound.
      • Tuesday, June 2, and Wednesday, June 3, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Motorists traveling southbound on Ocean Shore Boulevard will be directed to turn right onto westbound Standish Drive, turn left onto southbound North Halifax Drive, and then continue south to East Granada Boulevard. From there, motorists can turn left to return to Ocean Shore Boulevard.

Daytime flagging operations will guide motorists at the Standish Drive intersections with Ocean Shore Boulevard and Halifax Drive.

Please see the attached detour map under "images" for additional details.

The work schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. FDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, use caution in the work zone, and follow all posted detour signs.
