About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is planning to widen approximately 8 miles of U.S. 301 (State Road (S.R.) 35) from County Road (C.R.) 470 to S.R. 44 in Sumter County.

The project will be built in phases under three separate project numbers. Visit the pages below for more information.

  • First project, FPID No. 430132-4: This project is new construction for a new portion of U.S. 301 from C.R. 470 around the east side of the City of Coleman to Industrial Park Drive (formerly C.R. 525E). While this project is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026 and be completed by Early 2028, FDOT has added to this project. In August, the contractor will add a turning lane on U.S. 301 to the southbound Florida Turnpike on ramp and extend the length of both the existing and new turn lanes. The turn-lane project is expected to be completed in Spring 2026.
  • Second project, FPID No. 430132-2: This project will add lanes and reconstruct U.S. 301 from C.R. 470 to Industrial Park Drive (formerly C.R. 525E). This project is set to begin in late Spring 2027 and be completed in Summer 2030.
  • Third project, FPID No.: 430132-5: This project will complete the widening from Warm Springs Avenue to Florida's Turnpike. This project is slated to begin in Summer 2027 and be completed in Spring 2030.
