Project Update Open House August 5 for U.S. 301 Widening

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a project update open house about plans to widen U.S. 301 (State Road (S.R.) 35) from County Road (C.R.) 470 to Florida’s Turnpike on Wednesday, August 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The purpose of the projects is to increase capacity and enhance safety.

Construction is underway on the first segment, which will include a new section of roadway to realign U.S. 301 around the City of Coleman (FPID No.: 430132-4). Design is moving forward on two other segments to widen the roadway from C.R. 470 to Industrial Park Boulevard (FPID No. 430132-2) and from south of Warm Springs Avenue to Florida’s Turnpike (FPID No. 430132-5). The open house is an opportunity for the community to learn more about the design plans and provide comments.

The in-person open house will be held at Wildwood Community Center, 6500 Powell Road, Wildwood, FL 34785. Attendees will be able to view a looping presentation and project displays, speak with project team members, and submit comments or questions.

To provide additional flexibility for stakeholders, the FDOT is also offering online opportunities to get involved:

·         Join an online webinar at 5:30 p.m. to watch a project presentation and submit written questions or comments using the webinar questions box. Visitors to the pages may watch the project presentation, view project exhibits, and submit comments and questions directly to the project manager. Project materials will be available beginning Wednesday, August 5, and will be the same as what will be shared at the in-person open house. While the information remains on the website throughout the project, please provide comments or questions by August 17 to have the comments included in the open house record.
