Traffic Advisory: Travel Lanes on Eastbound I-4 Near Sand Lake Road to Shift Beginning April 6-7
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Motorists are advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will shift all lanes of eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) toward the center median starting south of Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) during the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 7. Preparation for the traffic shift will begin late Monday night, April 6.
The 1.4-mile traffic shift is expected to remain in place for approximately 10 months while crews demolish and rebuild the existing eastbound I-4 bridge over Sand Lake Road and reconstruct the eastbound I-4 general-use lanes.
During the traffic shift, motorists will travel on a newly constructed bridge over Sand Lake Road, then shift back onto the existing general-use lanes just north of Sand Lake Road. In addition, motorists entering eastbound I-4 from westbound S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway) will utilize a modified ramp to access the Sand Lake Road exit.
This traffic shift will allow eastbound I-4 to remain open while construction continues at the I-4 and Sand Lake Road interchange improvement project, helping reduce impacts to the traveling public. Crews will also reconstruct and widen the eastbound I-4 ramps to and from Sand Lake Road during this period.
Overnight closures scheduled April 6 to prepare for the traffic shift
The eastbound I-4 entrance and exit ramps at Sand Lake Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday night, April 6, to 6 a.m. the next morning, Tuesday, April 7, so crews can set up maintenance of traffic (MOT) devices and re-stripe lanes for the new traffic pattern. This work will also require single- and double-lane closures on eastbound I-4 near Sand Lake Road.
Detour Information for Monday night, April 6:
· Motorists west of I-4 on Sand Lake Road who wish to access eastbound I-4 will head north on Turkey Lake Road, turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way, then turn right onto southbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp. Motorists east of I-4 on Sand Lake Road may head north on International Drive, then turn left onto northbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp.
· Motorists traveling eastbound on I-4 who wish to exit to Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) will continue east and take Exit 75A at Universal Boulevard. Drivers will then turn right onto southbound Universal Boulevard and proceed to Sand Lake Road.
NOTE: Should this work not be completed overnight on April 6, the same closures and detours will be implemented the following night, April 7, during the same hours.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. FDOT advises motorists to follow all posted detour and travel signs.
