FDOT’s Road to Your Future Hiring Event Results in On-the-Spot Job Offers
WILDWOOD, Fla. – On Monday, March 16, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) hosted a Road to Your Future transportation industry hiring event at the Wildwood Community Center.
This free event offered job seekers the chance to connect directly with eight prominent industry partners, including Lane Construction and Southland Construction. Many contractors were actively hiring positions supporting current and upcoming FDOT transportation projects in the region. As a result of the event, eight individuals were hired on the spot, and 76 follow-up inquiries were received.
“Developing a strong transportation workforce is essential to supporting Central Florida’s continued growth,” said John Tyler, P.E., FDOT District Five secretary. "Road to Your Future reflects our commitment to working alongside private-sector partners to connect job seekers directly with companies offering immediate employment opportunities. By strengthening these partnerships, we are helping build the skilled workforce needed to deliver the infrastructure improvements our region depends on.”
Available positions included carpenters, heavy machinery operators, CDL drivers, road workers, electricians, civil engineers, GIS analysts, and more. Many of these unique opportunities included on-the-job training opportunities for advancement. The event proudly welcomed several hundred eager job seekers ready to take part.
Launched in 2024, Road to Your Future is a groundbreaking FDOT initiative that recruits talent for Florida’s growing transportation sector through hiring events hosted around the state. Thanks to strong support from Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature to enhance Florida's transportation infrastructure, FDOT remains committed to cultivating a robust workforce through such hiring events and ongoing workforce development efforts. By strengthening the workforce, FDOT is ensuring the continuous delivery of a safe and efficient transportation system that further drives advancement and economic growth within the communities it serves.
The Statewide Workforce Development Program, instituted and operated by FDOT since late 2019, is the culmination of key initiatives that provide a pathway to opportunities for experienced and entry-level workers alike in any field, allowing them to build successful careers in Florida’s transportation industry regardless of skill set or level of experience.
