UPDATE at 9pm February 15: S.R. 19 in Northeast Marion County has reopened.
UPDATE at 6:20pm February 15: All lanes on I-95 are now open.
VOLUSIA and MARION COUNTIES, Fla. – Interstate 95 is closed in both directions between Interstate 4/State Road (S.R.) 400 in Daytona Beach and S.R. 421 (Dunlawton Avenue) in Port Orange on Sunday afternoon, February 15, due to a wildfire that began with a vehicle fire along the interstate.
In addition, S.R. 19 is closed in both directions between S.R. 40 and County Road 314 south of Salt Springs in Northeast Marion County. This wildfire, along the shoreline of Lake George and within the Ocala National Forest, began Saturday afternoon, February 14.
Detours are in place for both roadway closures – please follow signage for the detours. Updates to traffic conditions are available at www.FL511.com and the Florida 511 app.
Drivers who encounter unsafe driving conditions due to smoke should report this to the Florida Highway Patrol immediately by calling *FHP (*347).
Wildfire smoke can lower visibility on the roads. It is important for motorists to drive as safely as possible in these conditions. Visibility may deteriorate quickly, especially during the nighttime and early morning hours.
Drive with lights on low beam. Your lights help other drivers see your vehicle, so be sure they all work. Keep your windshield and headlights clean, to reduce the glare and increase visibility.
Slow down. Watch out for slow-moving and parked vehicles. Open your window a little and listen for traffic you cannot see.
Reduce the distractions in your vehicle. Turn off the radio and avoid using your cell phone. Your full attention is required.
Use the right edge of the road or painted road markings as a guide. Be patient – avoid passing and/or changing lanes. Signal turns well in advance and brake early as you approach a stop. If you must pull off the road, signal, then carefully pull off as far as possible and turn your hazard lights on.
Motorists are asked to drive safe, stay alert, and follow the detour in place.
