Upcoming Community Event: S.R. 50 Realignment in Groveland and South Lake Trail Projects
Construction is expected to begin this summer on a project to realign a portion of State Road (S.R.) 50 around the City of Groveland and build two segments of the South Lake Trail. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will provide an update on the project plans at a community event on Wednesday, February 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the E.L. Puryear Building, 243 S. Lake Avenue, Groveland, FL 34736.
Community members are invited to stop by to view a short project presentation and exhibits, as well as speak with project team members.
The project proposes building a new road to the north of the existing S.R. 50 beginning at Villa City Road and extending to Second Avenue. The new S.R. 50 alignment will provide a bypass around the downtown core for trucks and other through traffic, enhancing safety and walkability in the downtown area. The existing one-way pairs are expected to become City roadways.
The community event will also share an update on plans to build Phase IIIB of the South Lake Trail from Second Avenue to Silver Eagle Road. The new trail will be built along the north side of S.R. 50 and then turn north onto Eagle Crossing.
More information about the realignment project can be found at www.CFLRoads.com/project/427056-1. The website for the trail is www.CFLRoads.com/project/422570-3.
