Traffic Advisory: New Traffic Signal Installed at U.S. 17 and Baxter Street/Ponce Deleon Boulevard in Volusia County
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has installed a new traffic signal at the U.S. 17 (State Road (S.R.) 15) and Baxter Street/Ponce Deleon Boulevard intersection in DeLeon Springs.
The signal is operating in flash mode and is expected to become fully operational in the coming weeks.
Drivers on U.S. 17 will encounter a yellow flashing light, which serves as a temporary alert to help motorists adjust to the new signal before it is fully activated with red, yellow, and green lights. While the signal is flashing yellow, drivers should remain alert and proceed with caution. Drivers should yield to pedestrians, bicyclists, or vehicles already in the intersection and ensure it is clear before continuing.
Drivers on Baxter Street/Ponce Deleon Boulevard will encounter a red flashing light requiring them to come to a complete stop before proceeding when safe.
Once fully activated, the signal is intended to enhance safety by managing traffic flow at the intersection and reducing the risk of crashes.
In addition to the new signal, a new roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Spring Garden Avenue/Spring Garden Ranch Road is being constructed to improve operations and safety. The new roundabout is expected to open this summer. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
