ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Motorists should be advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is closing westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) from Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) to S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway) nightly from Sunday, March 24 to Tuesday, March 26. Eastbound I-4 under S.R. 528 is scheduled to close nightly from Tuesday, March 26 to Thursday, March 28. These closures will begin as early as 10 p.m. each night and open by 6 a.m. each morning.

The closures are necessary to allow for bridge demolition as part of widening the eastbound on-ramp to S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway) from one lane to two lanes.

On the nights from Sunday, March 24 to Tuesday, March 26, motorists who wish to continue traveling on westbound I-4 past Sand Lake Road must follow detour signs and take Exit 75B onto southbound Kirkman Road toward Sand Lake Road. From there, motorists will turn left onto Sand Lake Road and then turn right onto John Young Parkway (S.R. 423) before turning right onto the entrance ramp to westbound S.R. 528. Motorists can then access westbound I-4 from S.R. 528. During this closure, westbound I-4 will narrow to one lane between Kirkman Road and Sand Lake Road to allow motorists the option to exit I-4 at Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A). Motorists should be advised that during this time, the westbound I-4 entrance ramps from Sand Lake Road will be closed. Motorists wishing to take westbound I-4 at Sand Lake Road can instead take Turkey Lake Road south to Central Florida Parkway, where they can get onto westbound I-4.

Motorists traveling on eastbound I-4 nightly from Tuesday, March 26, to Thursday, March 28, will be directed to follow detour signs and use Exit 72 onto eastbound S.R. 528 then take Exit 1 to International Drive and turn right onto northbound International Drive. From there, motorists will turn right to take the entrance ramp to westbound S.R. 528 to return to eastbound I-4.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

FDOT advises motorists to use caution, be alert while driving or riding through active construction zones and follow all posted detour signs. Please see the attached handout for more information.
