ORLANDO, Fla. –The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin installing a raised crosswalk along State Road (S.R.) 436 at the Curry Ford Road intersection in Orlando starting Wednesday, January 10, to enhance safety for both pedestrians and motorists alike.

This work will require right lane closures throughout the S.R. 436 and Curry Ford Road intersection starting Wednesday, January 10, and continuing through Friday, January 12, during nighttime hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting. Crews will also begin resurfacing the roadway during this timeframe, and will return Tuesday, January 16, to continue paving operations. Electronic message boards have been placed along the roadway to inform drivers of the upcoming raised crosswalk construction.

Once constructed, the surface of the crosswalk along S.R. 436 near Curry Ford Road will be slightly elevated to be level with the sidewalk, which will put crossing pedestrians in a more visible position and slow traffic.

Following initial construction, the crosswalk will not be accessible to pedestrians until new pavement markings and signage to further alert motorists to people crossing the roadway is completed. This safety project along S.R. 436 in Orlando is estimated to be completed by the end of February. The construction schedule is subject to change pending weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Please follow posted signage, avoid distractions, and drive cautiously in construction zones.
