Additional safety improvements include providing 6-foot-wide buffered bicycle lanes throughout the project limits, reconstructing pedestrian curb ramps, and installing detectable warning surfaces at all curb ramps, minor signal adjustments, pedestrian signal improvements, and minor lighting at the intersection of Air Park Road and U.S. 1.
A new 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the north side of S.R. 442, and a 12-foot-wide asphalt shared-use path on the south side of S.R. 442 will begin at I-95 and tie into Air Park Road. The new interchange at S.R. 442 and I-95 will improve safety and traffic flow.
A DDI is a type of interchange in which the two directions of traffic at the interchange cross to the opposite side of the road on both sides of the bridge. A DDI eliminates several traffic conflict points by moving drivers to the side of the road where they can turn left without having to cross in front of oncoming traffic. These improvements will help to accommodate future projected traffic demand and improve driver safety and efficiency.
