The goal of this project is to improve the nighttime visibility of pedestrians. All existing lighting fixtures will be converted to light-emitting diodes (LED) along Southwest 17th Street (State Road (S.R.) 464) at the intersections of S.R. 200 (SW 10th Street) and U.S. 441 (South Pine Avenue) in Ocala. Improvements shall satisfy FDOT Design Memorandum 16-02 (http://www.fdot.gov/design/bulletins/RDM16-02.pdf).
Work is planned to start in October and should only take a couple of weeks to complete. Access to businesses will be maintained by the contractor during work activities. Most of the work will occur at night, which will require lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. and may require temporary sidewalk closures. No daytime lane closures are anticipated.
FDOT urges all drivers to stay alert and use caution while driving through or near construction zones. When driving, walking, or bicycling, remember to pay attention and follow the rules. Safety doesn’t happen by accident.
