In 2016 the Office of Greenways and Trails (OGT) and the Florida Greenways and Trails Council (FGTC), selected the St. Johns River to Sea (SJR2C) Loop as the number two priority to receive Shared Use Non-motorized Trail (SUN Trail) funding. The objective of this effort is to “fill in the gaps” for the 260 mile SJR2C Loop through Volusia, Putnam, St Johns, Flagler, Volusia and Brevard Counties.
The focus of this project, which is currently in the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study phase, is to close the gap of the SJR2C Loop in Volusia County along US 17 between State Road 40 (S.R. 40) and the Volusia / Putnam County line, a distance of approximately 14 miles.
The PD&E study started in January 2018 and is anticipated to last approximately two years. The PD&E Study process is a blending of transportation planning, engineering analysis, environmental evaluations and public involvement and coordination with government partners.
More information about the study is available in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in the project files below.
