PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing safety and operational enhancements on State Road (S.R.) 200/Southwest College Road from east of Interstate 75 (I-75) to U.S. 301/U.S. 441/South Pine Avenue in Ocala.
The project will enhance safety by replacing portions of the multi-directional center lane with a raised concrete median and adding segmented left-turn lanes throughout the corridor. This will permanently reduce crossover movements to various businesses along the corridor.
These upgrades will also reduce vehicle conflict points while encouraging safer driving speeds. Three pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHBs) will be installed at the following locations: between Southwest 35th Terrace and Southwest 34th Avenue, between Southwest 32nd Avenue and Southwest 26th Street, and between Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest 10th Avenue. The entire corridor will be resurfaced to extend the life of the existing roadway.
To enhance safety and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), sidewalk and pedestrian features will be installed at intersections. Other improvements will include traffic signal work, lighting upgrades, drainage enhancements, new signs, striping, pavement markings, and landscaping.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Traffic will shift to the west side of S.R. 200 so work can begin on the east side. Temporary striping will be installed to guide traffic through the shift. Once this work is completed, the traffic will shift east to accommodate work starting on the west side of the road.
Construction activities are expected during the day and at night. Lane closures and detours will occur during various phases of the project. Electronic message boards and other signage will help motorists navigate the work zone. Uneven pavement is a common condition with projects that require temporary asphalt.
