The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in coordination with Osceola County and MetroPlan Orlando, is conducting the U.S. 17/92 Corridor Study to evaluate potential improvements to the approximately 6 mile section of U.S. 17/92 from County Road 54 to just west of Poinciana Boulevard.
The purpose of the Corridor Study is to evaluate the needs of the corridor, including potential for roadway widening, bicycle and pedestrian enhancements, safety improvements and other improvements. The Corridor Study includes a range of considerations: engineering and planning factors; the natural, social, cultural and physical environment; public involvement and coordination with local governments, permitting agencies and other organizations.
The Corridor Study, the first phase of the overall project, is anticipated to be completed in 2018. Once completed, the project will advance to the next phase of development, known as a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study, which is anticipated to begin in late 2019. Currently, Design, Right of Way and Construction are not funded in the FDOT’s Five Year Work Program.
