The Corridor Planning and Concept Development studies are designed to evaluate safety and multi-modal transportation improvements along the approximately 1.4 mile section of SR 518 (Eau Gallie Boulevard) between the Eau Gallie Causeway Bridge and SR A1A in Brevard County, Florida. The corridor is located along the border of the City of Indian Harbour Beach and the City of Melbourne. This five (5) lane arterial serves as a primary east-west evacuation route; serving local traffic as well as the many beach visitors.
The initial Planning Study, completed October 2016, seeked to address the safety and mobility needs of the community (for vehicle, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian transportation modes), and advance the long term vision for the corridor, based on the input received by the public, as well as the local agency partners.
The Concept Development is the next step in collecting necessary information to develop, and compare those alternatives derived in the Planning Study, select a preferred alterative(s), and prepare the concept for implementation.
