The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is widening NE 36th Avenue in Ocala from two to four lanes between NE 20th Place to north of NE 25th Street. The project also calls for construction of two new bridges: one over the CSX railroad crossing and the other over a new access road that will be built. Work will also include: clearing land, realigning NE 24th and NE 25th streets, ponds, new turn lanes at multiple locations, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, 20-foot-wide grassed medians and concrete medians near the bridges, drainage, lighting and signalization improvements, various pedestrian features to comply with the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and updated signage and pavement markings.
Work is anticipated to start in early September. Lane closures and detours are possible.
More information will be provided at a pre-construction open house on Thursday, Aug. 22, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Central Christian Church located at 3010 NE 14th Street in Ocala.
