I-95 Work is Needed to Prep Possible Evacuation Route
Special Closure Overnight In Daytona Beach on Interstate 95 (I-95)
Daytona Beach, Fla Crews are closing one lane of northbound I-95 overnight, tonight beginning at 9 p.m. The closure begins just south of the construction area at the I-95/I-4/U.S. 92 Interchanges. This will reduce northbound traffic on I-95 to one lane until 6 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) in this area.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is directing the construction project contractor to relocate the barrier wall along this stretch of northbound I-95. This will allow a full shoulder through this area, and aid in northbound emergency evacuation-effectively creating a third lane-if Emergency Shoulder Use becomes necessary.
Although this may cause inconvenience overnight, tonight, FDOT believes this will serve a greater a purpose to move traffic during a possible evacuation.
The Florida Department of Transportation urges you to drive carefully and pay attention in construction zones. Please consult FL511 online before traveling, or consult other travel apps.
