Traffic Advisory: S.R. 434 

Work will be expedited to get the road reopened

Oviedo A contract is signed and executed, a Notice to Proceed is issued, as construction work on a closed section of State Road (S.R.) 434 in Oviedo is expected to start Wednesday morning. The roadway is currently closed just south of Black Hammock, at Laurel Oaks Court, due to an issue with an old drainage structure that runs under the road.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will communicate and review with the contractor, Southland Construction, contract expectations for the expedited repair, prior to construction proceeding. The contract amount is $237,000. Once construction starts, the contract terms call for a 72-hour window to fix what's under the road, and reopen the road to traffic. Other construction work, not related to the travel sections of the road, may take longer.

Travelers who normally drive this section of S.R. 434 in Oviedo need to continue to use different routes. The suggested detour calls for traffic to use Tuskawilla Road and Red Bug Lake/Mitchell Hammock Roads as alternates. GPS mapping applications may take travelers a different way than the suggested detour.

FDOT advises drivers to follow the detour routes and to drive safely.
