SunRail Running Test Trains on Southern Expansion Tracks

Part of Certification Process

Sanford SunRail is running test trains in the coming days and weeks along the rail line's southern expansion area. Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to use caution around railroad tracks, and be on the look-out for additional train traffic.

The trains are running on soon to open tracks between the Sand Lake Road and the Poinciana stations. The testing takes place during daytime hours. Actual dates and times vary.

Testing is done to get train crews acclimated and certified in the southern expansion area, which covers 17 miles and adds four new stations. The new stations include Meadow Woods in southern Orange County, as well as three stations in Osceola County; Osceola Parkway, also known as the Tupperware Station; downtown Kissimmee; and, the Poinciana Station at the intersection of Poinciana Boulevard and Old Tampa Highway. The entire southern expansion opening is planned mid-summer this year.

Please be careful around trains, railroad crossings and while at station platforms. Be smart. Be safe. For more information about SunRail, including fares, schedule and station locations, please visit www.sunrail.com.
