Poinciana Boulevard Closed at Railroad Crossing Dec. 2-3

Osceola County Poinciana Boulevard will be closed in both directions at the railroad crossing just north of Old Tampa Highway from about 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, to approximately 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, to replace the crossing.

Traffic will be directed around the closure as follows:

  • Motorists traveling north on Poinciana Boulevard will be directed to turn right onto South Orange Blossom Trail (U.S. 17/92), continue onto John Young Parkway, then turn left onto U.S. 192 and back to Poinciana Boulevard. Northbound traffic will be permitted to continue to Old Tampa Highway and turn right to access local residences and businesses.
  • Motorists traveling south on Poinciana Boulevard will be directed to turn left onto U.S. 192, right onto John Young Parkway and continue along U.S. 17/92 to return to Poinciana Boulevard.

Local traffic access to all businesses and side streets along Poinciana Boulevard will be maintained. Detour signs will be placed throughout the area to direct drivers. Please see the map below for more information.

The closure is needed as part of SunRail's Phase II South extension project, which will add approximately 17.2 miles of new rail line between the Sand Lake Road Station in Orange County and the Poinciana Station in Osceola County. The project also involves double-tracking most of the corridor and improving grade crossings.

Please note that schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Updates are available at www.cflroads.com. Media inquiries can be directed to Communications Manager Steve Olson, 386-943-5479, Steve.Olson@dot.state.fl.us.

FDOT advises drivers to slow down in construction zones; the life you save may be your own.
