Interstate 75 Bridge Work and Detour in Bushnell
Sumter County – The I-75 widening project in Bushnell is now approaching the bridge demolition/bridge construction part of the schedule. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and contractor The Middlesex Corporation plan to demolish the southbound interstate bridge over State Road (SR) 48 in the last week of February, and, tentatively, on Sunday, February 22. Construction on the new bridge will soon follow the demolition.
The contractor’s timeline is two-three nights for the demolition, and nine months for new bridge construction. The existing southbound travel lanes of I-75 will be shifted prior to the bridge demolition, tentatively Friday, February 19. During the bridge demolition and future beam installations, east and westbound traffic on State Road (SR) 48 will be detoured near exit 314. There will be signs directing drivers through the detour area. Projected work hours for the bridge demolition are 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for three nights. The roads will be open during the day. Subsequent bridge construction will require temporary use of the detour. Sporadic day and night closures under the bridge on SR 48 may occur for the duration of the bridge building.
Up-to-date project information will be posted to the Central Florida FDOT web site at www.cflroads.com.
