Expect Lane Shift on State Road 40 Construction Corridor

Marion County – As the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues widening the western portion of State Road (SR) 40 in Ocala, a minor traffic pattern change will be implemented starting the night of November 3, 2014.

Eastbound travelers on SR 40 between SW 85th Avenue and the NW/SW 80th Avenue intersection, will notice a shift of the road to the north, where SR 40 currently transitions from two lanes to four. A short duration (few hours) detour will be used while the contractor switches the traffic.

The change in the pattern will facilitate the construction of the additional lanes to the south of the current roadway and will be in place through early 2015. The $12.3 million dollar construction project is anticipated to wrap up later next year. Weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances could alter work schedules.

Media inquiries about this project should be directed to FDOT Public Information Manager, Steve Olson at 386-943-5479 or steve.olson@dot.state.fl.us. Those with project-related questions may contact Irina Lallemand, Public Involvement Coordinator, at 352-427-4054 or irina.lallemand@dot.state.fl.us.

The Florida Department of Transportation urges travelers to exercise caution and awareness when driving through construction zones. Also please buckle up, and don’t text and drive.
