Public Information Meeting: E. Colonial Drive (SR 50) Bridge Replacement over Econlockhatchee River

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a public information meeting regarding plans to improve the roadway along State Road (SR) 50/E. Colonial Drive in Orange County, which involves replacement of the dual bridges over the Econlockhatchee River. The limits of the project are along SR 50 from Avalon Park Boulevard to Masood Lane.

The existing bridges currently carry more than 25,000 vehicles a day—about 1,200 of them trucks—and traffic volumes are projected to grow. They lack adequate accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians. The new bridges will be constructed to accommodate three lanes in both east and westbound directions in anticipation of future widening of SR 50, but will be configured, initially, as two-lane bridges in each direction in order to tie into the existing SR 50 roadway. The proposed bridges will also include sidewalk and bike lanes in both directions. Resurfacing the existing four-lane roadway, to the east and west of the bridges, is also included. Funding for construction has been set aside for the 2015 fiscal year.

The public information meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Bithlo Community Center at 18501 Washington Avenue, Orlando, FL 32820. The meeting is an informal open house where participants are welcome to attend at any time between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or family status. Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or persons who require translation services, free of charge, should contact: Ms. Megan Olivera, Quest Corporation of America, by writing to her at 1800 Pembrook Drive, Suite 349, Orlando FL 32810, or by calling (407) 709-9840 or via e-mail at megan@qcausa.comat least seven days prior to the meeting.
