Marion County – Motorists need to be on the lookout beginning Monday, February 11th as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues repairs on the retaining walls near the Sharpes Ferry Bridge in Ocala. The closure is located on County Road (CR) 314 in the section closest to the Oklawaha River.

The FDOT contractor, Orion Marine, plans to close off CR 314 between the Greenways & Trails office at 8282 SE Highway 314 and SE 1st Road. Posted detour signs guide travelers to State Road (SR) 40. The closure will last approximately two weeks.

In this phase of the operation, large cranes are being brought in to place new wall sheets which support the road leading up to the bridge. Subsequent stages of the repair, in the upcoming months, consist of the full installation of a replacement wall and the strengthening of the remaining walls. Demolition and installation work started Monday, January 28 and could last into the summer months.

Weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances could alter planned schedules.

The Florida Department of Transportation urges the traveling public to use caution when driving, walking or cycling around, in, or near construction zones.
