State Road 528 Emergency Bridge Repair Complete

Cocoa, Fla. Drivers can expect to have full access to the State Road (S.R.) 528/Beachline bridge over Interstate 95 (I-95) beginning next week. Crews are currently preparing to remove the temporary barriers, and open all access ramps and lanes to traffic.

The S.R. 528 overpass at I-95 has been under construction since Monday, April 29, when emergency repairs began to fix the considerable damage caused when a semi-truck hit the bridge with its oversized load in March.

Working through the overnight hours allowed the project team to maintain full, daytime access to I-95, only closing northbound I-95 for two nights throughout the 33-day repair process. Two access ramps, eastbound S.R. 528 to northbound I-95 and the southbound I-95 to eastbound S.R. 528, remained closed for the full duration of repairs along with nightly lane closures; all of which will be opened beginning Monday, June 3.

The repair process included the removal and replacement of the damaged beam and materials, casting of the concrete forms and the pouring and curing of the new bridge deck as well as the removal and replacement of overhead signage. These and other activities have been the focus of this approximately $750,000 repair project.
