Sanford Motorists will encounter a new configuration on State Road (S.R.) 46 this week. Instead of using the detour road, traffic will be moved to the mainline (S.R.46), using the future westbound traffic lanes for both east and westbound traffic.

Work to complete the traffic switch will take place tonight, Feb. 19, with the new pattern being in effect on the morning of Feb. 20.

The work is part of the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) project to widen S.R. 46 to a four-lane roadway from Mellonville Avenue to S.R. 415 in Seminole County. Plans includes two 11-foot travel lanes and one 6-foot bicycle lane in each direction.

Please note schedules may change due to weather or other circumstances. Electronic message boards and other signage will be used to safely direct motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists around the work areas. Drivers are asked to pay attention and use caution when traveling through a construction zone.

Project updates are available on the FDOT's Central Florida website, www.CFLRoads.com.
