U.S. 301 Proposed Improvements Public Hearing, Sumter County

Project limits are from County Road 470 East to State Road 44

Sumter County -- The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a public hearing for the proposed improvements to U.S. 301 from County Road (C.R.) 470 East to State Road (S.R.) 44 in Sumter County. The hearing will be Monday, Dec. 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 3305 E. C.R. 468 in Wildwood.

The project proposes to widen U.S. 301 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway, to realign a portion of U.S. 301 south of the City of Coleman, and to reconstruct the Florida's Turnpike interchange at U.S. 301, while minimizing potential impacts to the natural and human environments. The alternatives also consider roundabouts and a diverging diamond interchange at Florida's Turnpike.

The hearing will begin as an informational open house, during which time project displays and other information will be available for review. Staff also will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. A presentation will begin at 6 p.m., after which, participants may provide their verbal comments to all present. A copy of the newsletter invitation, including a location map for the hearing is attached. Notices are being sent to all property owners located within at least 300 feet on either side of the proposed alignment and to other public officials, regulatory agencies, organizations, and individuals interested in the project.

This public hearing is being conducted to give interested persons an opportunity to express their views concerning the location, conceptual design, and social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed improvements. The preliminary engineering report and other pertinent information will be available for public review on weekdays from Monday, Nov. 12 through Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Sumter County Government Offices, 7375 Powell Road, Wildwood, FL 34785.

A court reporter will be present to record proceedings, and assist with comments, as part of the project record. Written comments can be submitted at the hearing, sent by mail to Mary McGehee, Florida Department of Transportation, 719 S. Woodland Boulevard, MS 501, DeLand, FL 32720 or emailed to Mary.McGehee@dot.state.fl.us no later than Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018. All written and oral comments will become a part of the public hearing record.
