Flagging Operations Planned for Railroad Crossings Starting Oct. 27
Orange and Osceola Counties -- SunRail is continuing to switch over the railroad crossing signals to an upgraded system along the Phase II South Expansion project corridor. This will require a second weekend of signal outages at several crossings. Motorists are advised that flaggers will be used to stop drivers as trains pass from approximately 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, through 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the following locations:
- East Wetherbee Road east of Orange Avenue
- Fairway Woods Boulevard east of Orange Avenue
- Garden Street west of Michigan Avenue
- Carroll Street west of Michigan Avenue
- East Donegan Avenue west of Michigan Avenue
Traffic will only be stopped for train traffic; however, motorists may experience extended delays at these crossings. Police officers will assist with traffic control at larger crossings. A similar weekend signal outage occurred earlier this month at crossings located on the northern end of the project.
The signal upgrade is part of the 17.2-mile SunRail Phase II expansion project between the Sand Lake Road Station and Poinciana Station. The expansion includes construction of new track, as well as four new SunRail stations. During the signal outage, the new system will be activated and tested.
Please note that schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Updates can be found at www.cflroads.com, as well as www.sunrail.com.
