Winter Park Employers Encouraged to Participate in Holiday Commute Challenge December 12-16
Winter Park – reThink Your Commute, a program of the Florida Department of Transportation, is challenging Winter Park commuters to try a new way of getting to work December 12-16, 2016.
The commute challenge will be kicked off on Friday, December 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. when Good Morning Winter Park presents “Coffee & Commuting” at the Winter Park Welcome Center. Good Morning Winter Park is the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce’s popular monthly breakfast gathering where members, residents and community leaders converge. The special December 9 “Coffee & Commuting” session will feature a panel of unique transportation experts: Winter Park commuters who bike, walk, carpool and ride transit to work. Attendees will learn how these “reThinkers” have successfully navigated the alternative transportation network and the reasons why employers should encourage others to do the same.
Companies are encouraged to form workplace teams as part of the commute challenge. Participants will be able to log their commute trips, earning points for sharing the ride, trying transit or choosing an active mode to get to work December 12-16. To encourage some healthy competition, Whole Foods Market will award a catered lunch to the winning company with the best participation.
This is the fourth year in a row that commuters who work in Winter Park are being challenged to reThink the way they get to their jobs. A goal of the commute challenge is to increase awareness of the transportation options available to Winter Park commuters and connectivity throughout the city. This year’s challenge is a partnership between reThink Your Commute, the City of Winter Park, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, Healthy Central Florida and Whole Foods Market.
Winter Park employers and commuters can register for the kickoff event and join the challenge at reThinkYourCommute.com/WPCommuteChallenge. More information is also available by calling 866-610-RIDE (7433).
