SunRail News: Rail and Grade Crossing Work Begins on Portions of the SunRail Phase I Corridor
Central Florida – Track work, rail crossing improvements and other upgrades are beginning along portions of the existing SunRail passenger rail corridor from the Debary Station in Volusia County to the Sand Lake Road Station in Orange County. Improvements include rail replacement, ballast (rock) installation, track surfacing, and pedestrian and roadway grade crossing upgrades at various locations.
Some work is already underway, including the welding and distribution of new rail that will be installed along portions of the 32-mile corridor, and improvements to pedestrian crossings at SunRail stations. This work is occurring during weekends and overnight, when SunRail trains are not running.
Future work includes upgrades at 34 railroad crossings, which is expected to begin this summer. These improvements will enhance the safety and quality of the corridor for train, pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The cost of the project is $9,143,483. The estimated project completion is August 2017.
SunRail urges you to be careful around trains and at railroad crossings. Be smart. Be safe.
