Winter Park – Overnight paving work, set to begin Sunday night November 4, on I-4 between Lee Road and Fairbanks Road, is again postponed due to cool temperatures predicted next week.
Installation of this specific type of paving material is only effective when temperatures are at 65 degrees and rising. The work is occurring on the westbound side, between Lee Road and Fairbanks Avenue. Due to overnight conditions being cooler for the foreseeable future, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is working on back-up plans.
The first phase of the project is complete. The second phase involves laying down an asphalt surface, called an overlay, which goes directly on top of the (ground down) concrete surface. There is final restriping and other work that follows. The cost of the project is $377,838. Ranger Construction is the contractor.
The weather delay still does not put the project behind schedule, since the contractor has most of November to complete the work.
However, FDOT and the contractor are working to keep the project on an aggressive schedule. Updates are planned if there are any other changes.
FDOT urges you to buckle up, be careful in construction zones, and don’t text and drive.
